Though a book of the Bible without any mention of God, the book of Esther shows God’s sovereign working ever so clearly. First we find His hand in making Esther queen while exiled in Persia. When her cousin, Mordecai, overheard a plot to assassinate the king, he had her report it. Then came a plot to annihilate the Jews. Mordecai asked Esther to go before the king and intervene, which wasn’t permitted unless summoned. He said, “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14). Esther courageously agreed to go, saying “And if I perish, I perish.” (Esther 4:16). The king accepted her and through a series of twists, the Jews were saved.
Studying this book of the Bible can provide encouragement in times of uncertainty and persecution in a godless world. We have a God who cares for His people and works behind the scenes to bring about His perfect will.
