Covering the last three years of Jesus’ life through to His death and resurrection, the Gospel of John points to the deity of Christ. This theme of the book starts from verse one stating, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (Jn. 1:1). The death of a mere man would have been insufficient to pay the penalty our sin deserves. Only a wholly righteous, sinless Son of God could do that. This, then, is a key truth to teach that will enrich people’s faith. Below you’ll find studies to help teach this book.
While some of what you find in John also appears in the other Gospels, it comes at it from the angle of Jesus as God and contains much that is unique to this book. To get a fuller picture of who Jesus is, you may also want to teach the other gospels which present Jesus as follows:
- Matthew – Jesus, the Messiah, King of the Jews
- Mark – Jesus, the Servant
- Luke – Jesus, the Son of Man
